Hanging out at the festival

People gather around the kite festival in the free green space to hang out and enjoy the sun. Many of the attendees are families with young children. As would be expected, many are flying kites. People have brought their own kites or have purchased a cherry blossom kite to fly. But this isn’t the only activity people are enjoying. Others have brought toys or balls, and one festival goer even brought a huge bubble creator. Others are standing around the demonstration area, watching the experts show off their amazing skills at flying kites in synchronized time and with an emotional tie to the music.

Opening ceremony

The kite festival began at 10:00 am with an opening ceremony kick off. A short explanation of the history of the Cherry Blossom and an explanation of the kite festival started off the event. This was followed by the National Anthem and the unfurling of the flag. In true Kite Festival fashion, people also flew their patriotic flag-themed kites.
